What is Hokoria?

Hokoria is a project launched in 2022 with the goal of allowing political and personal expression, originally as a protest project inspired by the ‘Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands’. Since then, Hokoria has grown and our goals have changed- we now hope to create a welcoming community of ‘Hokorians’ that can support each other and work together.

Where is Hokoria?

Hokoria claims to be a nation, and although we acknowledge that many will consider us to not exist, using the format of a nation has been increadibly useful to achieving our goals- it’s also very creative and unique, something that we use to our advantage to stand out.

Hokoria claims a small area in Yeadon, Leeds (UK) and part of Hong Kong (HK) as its ‘territory’. The concept of declaring a self-declared state is nothing new- you only need to look as far as MicroWiki (the largest micronational encyclopedia) to find thousands of pages about ‘micronations’.

Working with us

WeAreHokoria, as the public facing organsation of the Hokoria project, is open to working with organisations and businesses in and around West Yorkshire (UK) and Hong Kong (HK). Get in touch with us at outreach@hokoria.net if you are interested, or would like to find out more about our work.
